Q: How the hell do you say your last name? Sorry if that’s rude—long-time fan who wants to say it correctly. Not rude at all, and no surprise that this is the first question! There’s about five common mispronunciations of my name that I usually hear, and I’ve become very accustomed to all of them:
I have a similar experience with people mispronouncing my name for my entire life and I feel the same. It's pretty exhausting correcting everyone. Thanks for the information about how to pronounce Tomine correctly!
About the mini comic or self published comic at shows, I can say that Adrian does look at them. He reached out to me years ago after I nervously handed him my comic. One of the best moments still in my art career
Not sure why but it flames me when people spell my name Bonnie when it is right there--Bonny. As a writer, it seems even more egregious when I am speaking to an audience and look in my intro bits and see it there--lurking--as if to test my pettiness.
Great post on the life-long last name mis-pronunciation game. My sister and I play this with our name, Baadh, which is not hard if you speak Danish but pretty impossible to pronounce (or spell.) I go by "BOETH" but my sis allows "BAHD" which works for her.
Some people have a name whose mispronunciation can be offensive. I think it can affect their whole life. On a related note, the recent widespread use of "Karen" as a slur is really unfortunate.
